GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The CDL Driver is responsible for driving trucks, such as a truck that pulls a leaf vacuum machine, and a chipper truck.  The driver is also required to sometimes perform labor duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for driving truck. This duty is performed daily.

 

2. Required to do manual labor as needed. This duty is performed daily.

 

3. Must maintain general maintenance of assigned vehicle. This duty is performed daily.

 

4. Assist in loading truck. This duty is performed as needed.

 

5. Direct crew members as requested. This duty is performed as needed.

 

6. Responsible for following all safety rules. This duty is performed daily.

 

7. Must be able to work with little or no supervision. This duty is performed daily.

 

8. Knowledge of all traffic laws and governing ordinances. This duty is performed daily.

 

9. Ability to operate vehicle safely and maintain proper licenses. This duty is performed daily.

 

10. Ability to observe all traffic laws. This duty is performed as needed.

 

11. Ability to use any equipment necessary to perform manual labor such as pothole patcher, compressor, etc. This duty is performed as needed.

 

12. Must learn to operate all CDL vehicles. This duty is performed as needed.

 

13. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.

 

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
