Arkansas State Police and local law enforcement agencies across the state will step up patrols later this month as part of a national campaign aimed at reducing speeding-related crashes.
The “Speeding Slows You Down” enforcement effort is scheduled to run from July 10 through July 31 and will focus on identifying and citing drivers who exceed posted speed limits.
According to Arkansas State Police, speeding continues to be a significant factor in traffic fatalities. State data show 139 of Arkansas’s 603 traffic deaths in 2024 were linked to speeding.
Officials are reminding motorists that driving too fast can reduce reaction time and increase the severity of crashes. They also encourage drivers to adjust their speed based on road, traffic, and weather conditions, even when traveling within posted limits.
The campaign is part of a nationwide initiative focused on improving roadway safety and reducing preventable traffic deaths.

NEARCO Policy Change
The NEARCO recycling facility in Madison is now charging a fee for taking used tires.
The changes were implemented by the state legislature and will be viable for a year with new legislation addressing the future of tire collection coming at the next session.
The new tire collection rates range from $3 for small tires to $27 for extra-large agricultural tires. The complete price list can be found on County Judge Craig Jones’ Facebook page.
Judge Jones says that they’re expecting to take in between 8,000 to 12,000 used tires a month. The average citizen can bring up to four tires a month for disposal at NEARCO for free.
Residents are being asked to please continue to use NEARCO to recycle and dispose of tires and are urged not to dump tires in ditches, roadways or dumpsters.
With the large volume of tires being delivered to the facility, NEARCO will only collect used tires three days per week. That’ll be from 7:00 am until 2:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Again, this schedule is for tire collection only. Citizens can still utilize the dumpsters at NEARCO for common trash five days a week.
For any questions, call the judge’s office at 870-261-1708 or NEARCO at 870-630-0357.
