Lanes on the Interstate 40 bridge at West Memphis will close over the month of June for routine inspections, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation. (Channel 3, Memphis)
Officials say that alternating eastbound and westbound single-lane closures will begin on Monday, June 2, and last until Thursday, June 26.
ARDOT says that inspections will begin on the westbound lanes and will change directions “as needed.” Eastbound lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., and westbound lanes will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Signage will be in place to inform drivers of the closures.
ARDOT crews are currently working on repairing potholes on the bridge. They patched five locations on Tuesday, continued concrete patching on Wednesday, and expect to finish today (Thursday)
It is unclear if the scheduled inspections are a result of the recent damage reported on the bridge.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Retired Captain Larry Hill. Captain Hill served our community with honor, integrity, and dedication throughout his many years in public service. His commitment to protecting and serving the citizens of Forrest City left a lasting legacy that will never be forgotten.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and former colleagues during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Thank you, Captain Hill, for your unwavering service. You will be dearly missed.

From Craig Jones post: There is water covering a portion of the road on HWY 284 approximately 50 yards north of the SFC 418 junction once again. There is a culvert stopped up and this has become a reoccurring problem. ARDOT has been notified and I plan to see if I can get them to unstop this culvert on Tuesday. If your going north on Hwy 284 please keep your speed in check cause you won’t be able to see the underwater road until it’s too late. I’ve called 911 and there should be a deputy dispatched until ARDOT can get a warning barrier and sign out there. Thank you and please be careful.

Hello, this is Kendall Pettus with the city of Forrest City and
I just wanna make the public aware that with the warm weather come snakes. Myself and fire Chief Jeremy Sharp just eliminated the threat of a cottonmouth, which is a very poisonous snake, from a sidewalk on Highway one in front of a local downtown business that was attempting to get inside of that business, so just because you’re on concrete or a parking lot that’s paved does not mean that you won’t run into the threat of a poisonous snake so just be very aware, be very careful, especially if you’re walking at night. Carry a flashlight or something with you for protection and just be aware of where you’re stepping and what’s in the area. With all the rain that we’ve had in recent weeks it has pushed the snakes into areas that they usually don’t inhabit so just be very careful be very aware. We don’t want anyone to be bitten or injured in anyway thank you.

This time of year, many area residents are diving into some much-needed spring cleaning.
The City of Forrest City encourages residents to bring unwanted items to the City Shop at 377 Farr Street between the hours of 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
Items that cannot be accepted include flammable liquids, paints, chemicals, bricks or stones.
----------------------------------
The city would also like to remind residents to please place yard waste like grass and leaves on the curb, not in the street.
Officials say putting it in the road can clog storm drains and cause flooding.

The City of Forrest City will host a Community Health Fair on July 12th at the Larry S. Bryant Multipurpose Center and they’re looking for vendors, health professionals, and wellness organizations to help make this event a success.
Th event would be a good fit for vendors who offer health screenings, fitness tips, healthy food options or wellness products.
The city is also looking for passionate and energetic volunteers to lead Yoga, Chair Pilates, and Line Dance sessions during the Health Fair.
If you or someone you know is certified or experienced in teaching these activities, contact City Hall at 870-633-1315.
