The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas will host a drive-thru mobile food distribution in St. Francis County on Thursday, September 19 from 8-10 a.m. at the Larry S. Bryant Multipurpose Center in Forrest City.
Persons receiving USDA foods must reside in St. Francis County and must also meet the income guidelines that have been set for the Emergency Food Assistance Program.
USDA foods are distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Forrest City High School will hold its annual College Night event on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
Representatives from more than 20 colleges and universities in Arkansas and surrounding states along with representatives from the military branches are expected to be on hand for the event.
Students will be able to apply to college and receive important scholarship information. The event is open to all Forrest City High School students and parents. Seniors and juniors are encouraged to attend.

Mr. Burns is the winner Annual Incentive drawing. The Share Health Education Campaign includes 12 ready-to-distribute workplace newsletters and educational handouts for each month's health topics. The content has important health highlights, clinical screening recommendations (if applicable) current scientific/ medical guidelines relative to the topic as well as recipes and an interactive activity. The interactive activity has been designed to increase employee engagement. Research studies have shown that hands-on, experimental actions (kinesthetic learning) not only generate more participation, but also influences knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and future health behaviors. Congratulations again Mr. Burns for winning the drawing and thank you to all employees who are actively participating in the campaign. Forrest City Junior High School and the Sixth Grade Academy had to be evacuated to the Dwight Lofton Mustang Arena for 7th period and the end of the school day after a gas leak was reported inside of the building. The leak has been capped off and the campus is currently closed while Local emergency personnel work to vent the building.
Adjustments have been made to the bus schedule and all students will be dismissed from the Arena parking lot this afternoon. Parents please be patient during pick-up and be aware of both bus and vehicle traffic in the parking lot.

The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas announced this week that funding for the Statewide School Food Pantry Program has been extended through the end of this year.
The program is funded by a grant from the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
In late July, the Food Bank was informed that the program’s funding would end September 30.
Then on August 23, DHS confirmed that they were able to offer a funding extension through December 31st for the School Food Pantry Program. DHS is also researching other funding sources in hopes of continuing the program in 2025.
Arkansas has a child food insecurity rate of 23.2 percent, well above the national average of 17.5 percent. Feeding America estimates more than 163,000 children in Arkansas are food-insecure.
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas administers the statewide grant that currently enables 51 school districts across Arkansas to provide emergency food assistance to families with children under the age of 18.

Traffic Update: I-40 Shutdown Near Brinkley
I-40 remains CLOSED following a major accident that occurred yesterday involving semi trucks. The situation is still ongoing as officials work to clear the scene.
* Incident Details: One of the semis was carrying military missiles. While half of the missiles have been recovered, several others are still embedded in debris and require extraction.
* Current Status: Both eastbound and westbound lanes are shut down. Traffic is being diverted onto exits, causing significant delays.
*Alternate Routes:
Eastbound Traffic: Use Highway 70
Westbound Traffic: Use Highway 64
Important: If you have travel plans today, please avoid the area around Brinkley (211-mile marker) to help keep the road clear for recovery personnel.

The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas reminds Arkansans that financial assistance for their electricity bills is now available through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
LIHEAP is designed to lower the energy burden from low-income households, who pay a high proportion of household income for home energy costs, by paying benefits for home energy bills.
Arkansas LIHEAP offers two types of benefit payments:
1. Regular: A one-time payment based on the household income and the number of household members.
2. Crisis: A one-time payment if you are facing disconnection, have a past due balance or the bill is prepaid for less than seven days.

Legal Aid of Arkansas will conduct a free Record Sealing Clinic, Saturday, September 14th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City.
Record Sealing is the process of hiding your criminal record from public view. Once sealed, the conduct is deemed by law never to have occurred.
East Arkansas Community College is offering unique tuition waivers to support the local community.
Tuition waivers are being offered to the following groups:
-St. Francis County Public School employees. This includes Forrest City and Palestine-Wheatley employees.
--All active-duty law enforcement officers, correctional officers, and firefighters. These waivers are for career specific classes.
--Employees of State of Arkansas agencies
--Multi-Generational tuition waiver for a parent & child or grandparent & child who enroll together as degree-seeking students.
