The class teaches CPR skills including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen; use of an automated external defibrillator; and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. Applications are now being accepted for a youth summer employment program in eastern Arkansas. The East Arkansas Regional Youth Employment Initiative (EARYEI) announces the second year of the Pathways to the Future Urban Community Forestry Program in St. Francis, Lee, Phillips and Monroe counties. The program is a dynamic, hands-on summer program offering high school youth the opportunity to gain practical skills in urban forestry and environmental conservation Applicants must be 16-18 years old and reside in St. Francis, Lee, Phillips or Monroe counties. Finally some good news. Thanks to our OES Director Zakk Jumper and our ADEM Representative Lonibeth Vondran, FEMA has agreed to come to St Francis County this Thursday, Friday and Saturday (the 5th, 6th and 7th). They will be set up at the Community Room at Woodruff Electric located at 3201 Hwy 1 North (on the By-Pass) in Forrest City from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm those 3 days. Please remember they are just filling out assistance applications for the April 2025 storms. If you cant be there in person you can always call 1-800-621-3362 and talk to a representative and submit it over the phone. You can also use the FEMA app for smartphones or you can go online at “www.disasterassistance.gov” Thank you to everyone who helped getting FEMA representatives here in St Francis County and everyone please do not wait to do something, if you had damage act now or you may get left behind.

The Forrest City PD has issued a “Scam Alert”. Forrest City Police warn that scammers are calling area residents and asking for payments for services, reportedly from various government agencies. Police say citizens should be aware that the IRS, Social Security, Postal Service, Toll Booths, Courts, and Law Enforcement agencies will NOT ask you to get gift cards, Apple Pay, cash app, or Bit Coin to make payments for services. Anyone receiving this type of call is asked to write down the number it came from and report it to the Arkansas Attorney General at (800) 482-8982. You can also email them at consumer@ArkansasAG.gov or submit a complaint online through their website, ArkansasAG.gov.

Temporary overnight ramp closures on Interstate 40 are expected to begin intermittently from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. tonight (Tuesday) and continuing through Saturday (6/7). Weather permitting, crews will close the off-ramps listed below in 1- to 2-hour intervals to test wrong-way detection systems. The test locations on I-40 East & West include: --Exit 233 (Palestine) --Exit 239 (FC Bypass) --Exit 241A and 241B (Forrest City) --Exit 243 (Newcastle) --Exit 247 (Widener) --Exit 256 (Parkin) --Exit 260 (Shell Lake) Only one ramp will be closed at a time, with plans to complete three to four ramps per night. Emergency responders will be allowed to access the ramps at all times. All others will be required to use an alternate exit during this time. Traffic will be controlled by Highway Police with the use of barrels, message boards, and signage. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov.
