FYI

A benefit program honoring Forrest City native and community leader Derrick Spearmon will be held Friday (11/21) at 6:30 p.m. at the Forrest City Civic Center.

Derrick is currently facing some serious health challenges, which has forced him to leave the career that he loved and was so passionate about.

While employed with the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services, Derrick helped individuals in St. Francis, Lee, Phillips, Monroe, Cross, Crittenden and Craighead counties obtain gainful employment and get financial stability.

Organizers are asking anyone who benefited from this young man’s diligence in the community or who just wants to support a person who was selfless in helping others, to bring a card of thanks and a donation to help support Derrick in his fight for life.

Again, the benefit program for Mr. Derrick Spearmon will be Friday (11/21) at 6:30 p.m. in the Ferguson Room at the Forrest City Civic Center.

✨ Blessing of Chubby’s Travel Center ✨

This past Sunday, November 9, 2025, Chubby’s Travel Center, located at 2496 AR-1 (off I-40 and the bypass), held a beautiful Indian tradition of blessing for the new store. It was a meaningful and heartfelt ceremony to bring good fortune, safety, and success to the new business and everyone who will pass through its doors.

We also had the special opportunity to go inside and take a first look — and let us tell you, the inside looks amazing! From the clean, modern layout to the friendly atmosphere, you can tell Chubby’s Travel Center is going to be a great stop for travelers and locals alike.

Mark your calendars — the official grand opening will be on November 17, 2025!
Stop by to check out the new facilities, grab a bite, and show your support for this exciting addition to our community.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Chubby’s Travel Center! 💙

Hello everyone, I just got an urgent message from ARDOT. We have two bridges being shut down in St Francis County. The concrete bridge on SFC 414 and SFC 419 will be closed as soon as we can block them off. After an audit by ARDOT bridge inspectors, they have deemed the bridges to be structurally unsafe and we have been advised to shut these bridges down immediately. The only positive thing about this situation are these bridges are not travelled regularly by many people. The bridges are located both north and south of the I-40 exit at Widener and may be closed for a while. The costs to fix these bridges will be expensive and I will have to look at different avenues for the funding. Sorry for the inconvenience.
